Man Arrested after Accidental Gun Discharge in Movie Theater

tn Criminal Charges - Gun

A West Tennessee theater audience had a shocking fright Tuesday when a loaded gun fell out of a man’s pocket and discharged a live round while watching a movie.

63-year-old George Gholson entered the Malco Movie Theatre in Memphis Tuesday afternoon with a .38 caliber two-shot Deringer pistol in his pocket, disobeying the theater’s posted notice prohibiting weapons inside the building. Police say, while watching the movie, the gun fell out of his pocket and discharged a live round when it hit the floor.

There were 18 people in the theater when the gun fired, but thankfully nobody was hurt. They were, however, surprised by the “all-too-realistic” special effects.

An off-duty police officer was one of the theatre-goers present, and he detained Gholson after the shot was fired. Police arrived to the scene later to arrest Gholson.

Gholson has been charged with a felony of reckless endangerment and also prohibition of certain meetings-posting notice.

Gholson is currently out of jail on a $2,000 bond. There is no word on if he has an attorney yet, but it is expected that he will soon have assistance on his case, which could reduce his bail, or possibly ease other sentences that may be caused by his charges.

If you or a family member are currently facing criminal charges, consider speaking to an attorney to discuss what your next step should be. A criminal defense attorney would assist you in your case, possibly reducing the charges levied against you.
