After years of separation, Ed Asner has finally filed for divorce.
Ed, age 85, best known for his role as Lou Grant on “The Mary Tyler Moore show,” had been married to his wife, Cindy Asner, since 1998. Then, in 2007, the two had a falling out and separated. They lived separately for nearly ten years, but never divorced.
The split itself looked like it was a heated issue for both of them. In 2008, Ed threatened to cut off his spousal support to Cindy, stating in a filing that she needed put some effort into finding a job and supporting herself.
Later, in 2009, the two seemed to reach a financial settlement, and then…. things just sat for a bit. Years passed with the couple living in separation, but neither had made a move to break things off entirely and file for divorce.
Now, after 8 years of separation, Ed has finally filed for divorce. There’s no comment from Ed’s side of the divorce, so one can only speculate as to what was tipping point to finally make things official.
