West Tennessee Traffic Stops Leads to Seizure of Largest Synthetic Marijuana Laboratory This Year

May 9, 2014

Marijuana-Seizure-in-TennesseeAuthorities reported the seizure of the largest synthetic marijuana laboratory in the state so far this year in West Tennessee.

On Monday, a traffic stop, conducted by Tennessee Highway Patrol officers, halted a pickup truck on Interstate 40 in Haywood County. The occupants were both discovered to have been on probation from Florida for drug possession. A further search of the truck revealed a safe filled with cash, and, after searching the homes of the two, officers found a synthetic cannabinoid laboratory equipped to manufacture synthetic marijuana.

Authorities report that they seized 50 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids, also known as “spice” and “K2”, which are created by spraying natural herbs with synthetic chemicals, creating psychoactive effects similar to cannabis. Officials also reported that the occupants of the truck were arrested and face drug-related charges, as well as money laundering.
