Remembering Former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson Following Untimely Death

fred-thompson-deathThe first day of November passed solemnly for family, friends, and admirers of former United States senator Fred D. Thompson, who died of lymphoma in Nashville at the age of 73. Thompson was esteemed not only for his political career, which included both a key role in the Watergate case as well as a presidential campaign, but also for his unlikely success in the entertainment industry. It goes without saying that, although his life has come to an end, his memory will be justly honored by history.

A Man of Many Talents

For a respected political figure, Fred Thompson led a life that was busy with eccentricities. That he maintained a healthy acting career in spite of being a politician is unique in the same way it was with Ronald Reagan. His efforts in the world of Hollywood serve as effective demonstrations of Thompson’s appreciation for hard work in all of his endeavors. His filmography brags about 20 movies, including such hits as “The Hunt for Red October” and “Cape Fear.”

Thompson took his position in the U.S. Senate in 1996 after famously campaigning across the state in his red pickup truck. With no prior experience in a governmental position,  his entry into public office was, by all accounts, appropriately unusual. He retired from his 6-year term as Tennessee’s U.S. senator in 2003, explaining his actions thusly: “Serving in the Senate has been a tremendous honor, but I feel that I have other priorities that I need to attend to.”

Maybe he was referring to his future presidential campaign in 2007, during which he entered primaries for the Republican candidate. For better or worse, this obviously didn’t work out. He ended up leaving the race in January of 2008, instead putting his efforts toward supporting John McCain’s campaign.

Death and Probate in Tennessee

Estate administration for big names like Fred Thompson is often fairly complicated due to the kind of acquisitions that tend to come with fame. And one thing to remember when performing the duties of estate executor in Tennessee is that more assets usually translates to more consequences for mistakes. Probate can be a tricky business, especially when other people try to squeeze themselves into the proceedings, and administrators should take care to always maintain composure when dealing with the tense circumstances associated with probate.
