Two Georgia Football Players Arrested For Marijuana Possession

6_1037206A pair of University of Georgia football players were arrested Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession. Freshmen Natrez Patrick and Chauncey Rivers were caught smoking inside their car in a parking garage by university police patrolling campus after midnight. When police went to investigate the suspicious vehicle, one officer knocked on the window. Rivers opened the door, and immediately, a cloud of smoke came out with the heavy scent of weed. Police told Patrick and Rivers to step out, and it became visible in their eyes they were smoking marijuana. Both were handcuffed, arrested and jailed for the remainder of the night. Georgia head coach Mark Richt has suspended both players for Saturday’s game against Kentucky. Patrick, a linebacker, has appeared in seven games this season, and Rivers, a defensive lineman, two.

Be Smart, Kids

It is amazing to see the amount of football players at the professional and collegiate level who get busted for marijuana possession. If you are an athlete making a wealthy living as a pro or receiving free college tuition as student-athlete and all you have to do is not do drugs, maybe you should try being clean so you do not jeopardize your future of having a dream job.

Tennessee Drug Offenses

Tennessee marijuana laws are much harsher than Georgia’s. The players were given only misdemeanor charges for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana. In Tennessee, it is a misdemeanor for possessing less than .5 ounces and anything more than that is a felony, which can lead to jail time and a hefty fine.
