Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton Getting a Divorce

mirandalambert-blakeshelton-divorceCountry music fans tuning into the news should be prepared for a blow, as super-couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have officially made it known that they have started the divorce process. The two were married for four years and there have been numerous reports over the past few months of trouble within the bonds of matrimony. This morning, the public received confirmation that Shelton has filed documentation himself.

So, what next?

Well for one thing, the love story that began with their famous duet in 2005 seems to be over. But thankfully for both soon to be ex-spouses, there was a prenup! Most everything has already been arranged privately, and supposedly the proceedings will be concluded on this very day.

Lambert and Shelton have two properties included in their marital estate, one of which is a house for family located in our very own Nashville. The other is a ranch nestled further west in Oklahoma. This divorce news is relatively new – so it’s uncertain exactly how alimony and other such divisions will turn out. However, according to online reports, the westward ranch is to be retained by Shelton while the Nashville home will remain under the care of Lambert. Apparently, she also has “show animals” currently living on the Oklahoma ranch. But the next few days will see to the swift relocation of Lambert’s camel, llama, and horses.

The country music couple have allowed their representatives to issue a statement to the public regarding the upcoming split: “This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately.  We are real people, with real lives, with real family, friends and colleagues.  Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

Considering the typical media obsession with celebrity divorces, one might wonder whether their wishes for discretion will be honored.

Divorce Law in Tennessee

Although Shelton filed for divorce in Oklahoma, the couple could have easily undergone procedures in Tennessee. If this had happened, it’s unlikely that things would have gone terribly different. Tennessee divorce law also accommodates for prenuptial agreements, and the allocation of the marital estate seems to have been done relatively amicably – since they seem to be nearly done with the entire process. Trouble usually surfaces when there are disagreements during the negotiation process. It’s already been publicly released that Lambert gets the Nashville stuff and Shelton gets the Oklahoma stuff, so apparently things have gone smoothly. We hope.
